You Did Everything Right
You did everything they told you to do. Steady job. Bills paid. And you still felt like you were living somebody else's life.
That was me. A registered nurse in Kansas City with a secure job, a girlfriend, a car, and every bill covered. On paper, set. Inside, sad, anxious, and stressed about health problems no doctor could explain.
In 2018 I walked away from nursing and jumped into entrepreneurship. Within months, most of those problems faded. And for the first time, I started to see who I actually was.
I was not looking for astrology. I thought the zodiac lived in the back of magazines. Most people agree. In a 2024 survey of 9,593 U.S. adults, only 27% said they believe in astrology, and just 1% said they rely on it a lot for major life decisions.1
And yet the money says interest is compounding. Astrotalk, one astrology app, reported roughly $140 million in revenue for its 2025 fiscal year, up 85%.15 The top ten U.S. astrology apps went from $7.7 million in 2016 to $40 million in 2019.16
If you're in the 73% who don't believe, good. This is for you. This is a workshop, not a lecture. Grab your birth date. Work through eight short exercises. By the end you'll have page one of your own Birth Code, and you'll know exactly what's still missing.
Then metaphysics found me
I never planned to look into any of this. But the more I read my astrology, the more I found parts of myself I knew were true and had never named. I had always said I should be a creative business owner. Then I read my chart. Capricorn in the first house: the builder who wants to own the structure. Pisces Sun and Moon in the second house: imagination pointed at money and values. A creative business owner, written in the sky the day I was born.
Numerology and Human Design said it again. I leaned in and used these maps to grow a media agency that produced work for the NFL, the Premier League, and T-Mobile for Business. Not because the stars did the work. Because the maps helped me stop spending energy on work that was never mine.
Perspective shiftA life can look right on paper and still run on the wrong code.
One Moment, Four Readouts
You were born at one exact minute, in one exact place. That moment is data. Four systems read it four ways.
- What it reads
- What you need
- The question it answers
- In code terms
You don't have to pick one. Think of it as triangulation. When three or four separate systems point at the same trait, pay attention. When only one says it, hold it loosely. That cross-check is the reason I built EDEN: one birth moment in, all four readouts out, side by side.
Perspective shiftSame birth moment. Four lenses. You're not choosing one. You're cross-checking.
Astrology Is a Snapshot
Everyone knows their sun sign. In astrology, the Sun is your ego. Funny that for most people, the ego is as far as they got.
Knowing your sun sign and calling it astrology is like knowing that cards are the key to Texas Hold'em. True. Also useless at the table. There are 1,326 possible starting hands. The game lives in the combinations. So does a chart. Count what's on the board.
Each body lands in one sign and one house. That's 144 positions per body. Ten bodies means 144 to the tenth power. Add Chiron, the nodes, Lilith, and the four major asteroids, and the number stops meaning anything.
Exercise 1 of 8 · Count the board
How deep is a chart?
Pick how many points you read.
"On paper" matters. Astronomy removes a lot of combinations. Mercury never strays far from the Sun, and every house shifts together with your birth time. The honest number is smaller, and still bigger than the grains of sand on Earth, roughly seven and a half quintillion.17
Here is why that matters. Your sun sign sorts you into one of twelve buckets. Your full chart is a fingerprint. That's the jump from "Pisces" to "Pisces Sun and Moon in the second house with Capricorn rising." The sun sign is the cover. The chart is the book.
Reading the picture
Read a chart in three layers.
Planets are the what
The part of you in play. Mars is drive. Venus is love and taste. Mercury is how you think and talk.
Signs are the how
Twelve archetypes, Aries through Pisces. Each one is a style of expression.
Houses are the where
Twelve areas of life, from self and money to daily work, career, and legacy.
Exercise 2 of 8 · Freeze the sky
Freeze the sky
The sky never stops moving. A chart is the frame it was in when you arrived.
Illustration. Your real chart comes from your birth data.
Stack the layers and you get something specific. My Mars is in Gemini in the sixth house: drive running through curiosity and communication in daily work. Translation: a guy who can't stop learning, talking, and making things at work. Anyone who has worked with me would nod.
My working belief: the stars were aligned exactly right for who you are. I believe a chart shows gifts you walked in with, skills some traditions say you mastered in previous lives. That's belief, not data. You don't need it to use the map.
The part that surprised a biology grad
Western astrology uses the tropical zodiac, which is pinned to the seasons, not the constellations. Aries begins at the March equinox. Cancer begins at the June solstice. So your sun sign is, quite literally, the season you were born into.
And season of birth measurably matters. Columbia University researchers scanned 1.7 million patient records and found 55 conditions linked to birth month.2 At Vanderbilt, researchers raised newborn mice under summer or winter light cycles. The light at birth imprinted how their body clocks ran into adulthood.3
This does not prove Mars makes you bold. The effects are small, and the Columbia team said diet and exercise matter far more. It also leaves a puzzle: an Aries born in Sydney was born in autumn. What it does prove is simpler. The moment you arrived is not noise.
Perspective shiftYour sign is a season. Seasons shape biology. The rest is a mirror you get to test.
Numerology Is the Character and the Plot
If astrology is the cast list, numerology is the script. Two numbers do most of the work.
Your Destiny number, also called your Expression number, comes from the letters of your full birth name. Every letter carries a number from 1 to 9 on the chart below. It's the character you're playing.
Your Life Path number comes from your birth date. It's the story arc, and the lesson that returns until you learn it.
My Life Path is 11, a master number traditionally called the intuitive messenger. Funny thing to read when you write a series called Lift the Veil. Run yours below.

Numerology is traditionally traced to Pythagoras, but the modern Western version took shape in the early 1900s. There is no lab evidence that numbers steer your fate. So use it as a story prompt: if this were my plot, what would the next chapter ask of me?
Perspective shiftYou don't have to believe a number. Just check whether the story fits.
Human Design Is Your Operating System
This is the one that changed my business. Human Design says you run like a computer program, and reality is the motherboard you plug into. When your code matches the board, things load. When it doesn't, you get 404 errors. Rejections. Burnout. Launches that go nowhere.
Most people answer a 404 by working harder. But more effort in the wrong language is still the wrong language. It's flawless CSS sent to a port that only reads JavaScript. The code is fine. The system can't run it.
Ra Uru Hu created Human Design in 1987. It blends astrology, the 64 hexagrams of the I Ching, the chakra system, and the Kabbalah's Tree of Life into one body chart.4 Its first sort is five energy types, each with its own strategy.
Now tap a type.
Exercise 4 of 8 · Name your 404
Strategy, the correct code

Model Population shares are the system's own estimates. Your actual type is calculated from your birth data, not picked.
Three years into entrepreneurship, I couldn't crack lead generation. Every expert said the same thing: initiate. Cold pitch. Hustle harder.
Then I learned I'm a Projector, a mental Projector specifically. Projectors are built to be recognized and invited, not to push. All that initiating wasn't creating momentum. It was creating resistance. When I stopped chasing and started building work that drew people in, the invitations came. I wrote about the physics behind that shift in You Are a Broadcast.
My profile is a 2/4 with the 11-56 channel defined, the channel of curiosity, often called the storyteller's wiring. That explains a lot. I process everything I live through by turning it into a story for someone else.
Perspective shiftStop debugging your effort. Check what language you're coding in.
Gene Keys Are Your Superpowers
Human Design tells you how your code runs. Gene Keys tell you what it can become. Richard Rudd, an early student of Human Design, first published The Gene Keys in 2009.5 Same 64 codes. But each one is a spectrum with three frequencies.
Shadow
The reactive pattern you fall into under stress.
Gift
The genius that shows up when you meet that same energy with presence.
Siddhi
The highest expression. The pattern fully realized.
I call them superpowers because you have access to them every hour of every day. A key doesn't ask you to delete your shadow. It asks you to alchemize it. The bad moment already holds the ingredients of your gift. That's the idea behind The Pressure Cooker: the corner is the curriculum.
Exercise 5 of 8 · Tune a key
Names from Richard Rudd's The Gene Keys. The one-line reads are my paraphrase, not his text.
My chart carries keys 11 and 56. When I chase stimulation, I scatter. When I slow down, that same restless curiosity turns into stories that feed people. Same energy. Different frequency.
The "gene" in Gene Keys is a metaphor. There is no evidence your DNA maps onto the I Ching. But the core practice, reframing a hard moment instead of reacting to it, has a well-studied cousin called cognitive reappraisal, which reliably lowers negative emotion.6
Perspective shiftYour shadow isn't a bug in the code. It's the raw material for your gift.
Where You Stand Changes What Shows Up
Astrocartography lays your birth chart across a world map. Astrologer Jim Lewis began mailing hand-drawn versions to clients in 1976.7 Each line marks where a planet was rising, setting, overhead, or underfoot when you were born.
The claim: near certain lines, certain gifts get louder. Venus for love and beauty. Jupiter for growth. Saturn for discipline. You don't have to take that on faith. Reverse engineer it: plot your lines, drop the cities where life lit up and where it felt heavy, and see what runs through them.
Exercise 6 of 8 · Map your places
Drag to spin the Earth
1 Plot your lines
Your lines only need the exact moment you were born. The place you were born doesn't move them.
Showing a sample sky: January 1, 2000, midnight UTC.
2 Pick the planets to show
3 Drop your places
A stripped-down version of the Sky Map inside EDEN, which plots all ten planets and four angles for your exact birth moment and reads any city on Earth. Positions here use a simplified ephemeris, accurate to about a degree, so treat nearby lines as approximate.
We know place shapes people; I laid out the research in Your Environment Is the Soil. Astrocartography asks: does this soil fit your seed?
Perspective shiftYour past addresses are data. Read them before you pick the next one.
What the Science Says, and What It Doesn't
I have a biology degree and a nursing degree, so here's the part most astrology content skips.
When scientists test astrology's predictions head on, the predictions fail. In a double-blind study in Nature in 1985, astrologers could not match charts to personality profiles better than chance.8 Geoffrey Dean and Ivan Kelly followed 2,101 "time twins" born minutes apart in London in 1958. Across more than 100 traits, no meaningful similarity.9
There's also a trap built into every one of these systems. Try it.
Exercise 7 of 8 · Test the reading
Your personal reading
Rate each line. 0 is not me. 5 is exactly me.
So why use them at all? Because I don't use them to predict. I use them to reflect.
And self-knowledge is not woo. People with a clearer sense of who they are report higher self-esteem and less anxiety.10 Yet most of us overrate ourselves: about 95% of people think they're self-aware, and only 10 to 15% actually are, according to organizational psychologist Tasha Eurich.11
A chart is a set of prompts, an old vocabulary for parts of you that never had words. Your body and your results are the judge.
Measured Replicated research
- Season of birth has small, real effects on health and body clocks.
- Astrology's direct predictions fail controlled tests.
- Generic readings feel personal to almost everyone.
- A clearer self-concept tracks with better wellbeing.
- Reframing a hard moment lowers negative emotion.
Model My working framework
- A chart reflects gifts you walked in with.
- Following your Human Design strategy reduces resistance.
- Gene Keys describe a real path from shadow to gift.
- Planetary lines turn certain gifts up by place.
- The unseen is biology we have not mapped yet.
Perspective shiftThe skeptic and the seeker want the same thing: what's true. So test it.
How to Read Your Chart Without Getting Fooled
Where to start: stay curious, look it up, then let your body vote.
- Get your data right. Birth date, exact time, and city. Check your birth certificate. Time matters most for your rising sign, houses, Human Design, Gene Keys, and map lines.
- Pull your charts. Free generators exist for every system. Or build all four at once in EDEN.
- Read one line at a time. Not the whole report. One sentence.
- Run the body check. Does your body expand, stay neutral, or contract? It's the same three-way read from The Ternary Code, and your gut carries real signal, as I covered in The Science of Intuition.
- Keep what expands, then test it. Live with it for 30 days. If it never changes a decision, it was trivia.
Exercise 8 of 8 · Run the body check
Resonance log
Paste one line. Tap what your body did.
Nothing logged yet. Your list stays on this page only.
One nuance. A contraction doesn't always mean false. Sometimes the line that stings is the shadow you've been avoiding.
Perspective shiftRead with your mind. Decide with your body. Prove it with action.
A Tool, Not a Crutch
Metaphysics opens the door. It doesn't walk through it for you. It still takes action, knowledge, wit, and skill.
Psychologist John Welwood named the failure mode in 1984: spiritual bypassing, using spiritual ideas to dodge the hard, human work.12 "Mercury is retrograde" is not a business plan. "I'm a Projector" is not permission to wait forever.
You've seen the line: "Millionaires don't use astrology, billionaires do." It's always pinned on J.P. Morgan. I've quoted it myself. So I checked.
Nobody has found Morgan saying it. The earliest printed version traces to astrologer Sydney Omarr in 1989, more than 75 years after Morgan died.13 What is documented is smaller and more interesting. Astrologer Evangeline Adams wrote in 1926 that she gave Morgan a regular astrology service in his last years. He died in 1913, after building his fortune and steadying Wall Street through the Panic of 1907. So the stories of him steering through the 1929 crash or World War II don't hold up.
I like the true version better. One of the most powerful bankers alive was curious enough to look, and grounded enough to keep doing the work.
The stars don't hand you a destiny. They hand you a character sheet. You still have to play the game.
Used well, these tools never limit you. They help you find the talents you've been sitting on and point your time and energy where they pay off. That's sovereignty in the modern world: knowing your own code well enough that nobody else gets to write it for you.

Questions People Ask
What is the difference between astrology, numerology, Human Design, and Gene Keys?
Astrology maps the sky at your birth into planets, signs, and houses. Numerology turns your birth date and full birth name into numbers that describe your character and life story. Human Design blends astrology, the I Ching, the chakras, and the Kabbalah into an operating manual for decisions and energy. Gene Keys read the same 64 codes as Human Design as a path from shadow to gift to siddhi.
Is astrology scientifically proven?
No. Controlled tests, including a 1985 double-blind study in Nature and a study of 2,101 time twins born minutes apart, found that astrology's predictions do not beat chance. Season of birth does have small, measurable effects on health and body clocks. Many people use astrology as a reflection tool rather than a way to predict.
Do I need my exact birth time?
For your Sun sign and your Life Path number, no. For your rising sign, houses, Human Design chart, Gene Keys profile, and astrocartography lines, yes. A difference of an hour can change the results, so check your birth certificate or hospital records.
How do I calculate my Life Path number?
Reduce your birth month, day, and year to single digits separately, keeping the master numbers 11, 22, and 33. Add the three results and reduce again. Example: March 15, 1991 gives 3, then 1+5 = 6, then 1+9+9+1 = 20 and 2+0 = 2. 3+6+2 = 11, a master number.
What is a Projector in Human Design?
One of five Human Design types, said by the system to be about 20% of people. Projectors are designed to guide and see others deeply, and they do best when they wait to be recognized and invited instead of forcing things. Their warning sign is bitterness. Their signal of alignment is success.
What are the Gene Keys?
A contemplative system created by Richard Rudd and first published in 2009. Each of its 64 keys has a Shadow, a Gift, and a Siddhi. The practice is to notice the shadow pattern and let it become its gift through awareness, not force.
What is astrocartography?
A technique developed by astrologer Jim Lewis in the 1970s that projects your birth chart onto a world map. Its lines show where each planet was rising, setting, overhead, or underfoot when you were born. People use it to reflect on places they have lived and to choose where to travel or move.
Can I be a skeptic and still use these tools?
Yes, and it is the best way to use them. Treat every reading as a hypothesis. Keep what your body and your real results confirm, and drop what they don't. Never let a reading replace action, skill, or professional advice.
How many possible birth charts are there?
Far more than twelve. Each of the ten main bodies (the Sun, the Moon, and eight planets) lands in one of 12 signs and one of 12 houses, which is 144 positions per body. Ten bodies gives 144 to the tenth power, about 3.8 sextillion sign-and-house states on paper. Astronomy rules some combinations out, but the real number is still larger than the grains of sand on Earth. That is why a sun sign is a category and a full chart is a fingerprint.
What is spiritual bypassing?
Using spiritual ideas to avoid difficult emotions or real-world work. Psychologist John Welwood named it in 1984. In metaphysics it looks like blaming a planetary transit instead of fixing a problem, or using your chart as a reason not to act.
